Broccoli chips

OMG I have just discovered a taste sensation - Broccoli Chips. Yes you read correctly, BROCCOLI CHIPS.

They are completely scrumptious!

Ingredients: 97% broccoli, 2% rice bran oil and 1% salt and nothing else. No numbers to decode, no words you cannot pronounce, just three ingredients. Amazing.

Now I must confess I am a HUGE fan of green veggies. Just love them. So these little crunchy morsels of deliciousness are right up my alley. YUM!

I generally stay clear of processed packaged snacks, mainly because they either have wheat, rice or potato - all of which are high GI.

I'm generally okay with that and happily snack on fresh fruit and nuts. However there's the odd time when I really fancy something crunchy, and now I've found it. I am the happiest girl alive right now.

So if you're keen to try them or some of their other kinds like mango (they looked heavenly only they're high GI so off the menu pour moi).

The brand is 'greenday' and manufactured by www.asworld88.com. I found them at an Asian food grocer in Adelaide for $1.95 per box.

Now I'm not popular enough to get paid for endorsements, nor am I sleeping with the boss. I simply love these healthy treats and want them to remain on the shelves. So that means people have to buy them. If you try and love them, be sure to tell your neighbour... Same goes for any children's books you might be into (hint hint, wink wink).

Until tomorrow, if you love something tell the world. You just don't whose table you might be putting food on.

Meaningful goals matter

After finishing yesterday's MTS [Moving Target Syndrome] post, I was less than enthusiastic about heading outside in the rain to return a DVD (which by the way was The Soloist - a fabulous film).

This was a classic case of MTS manifesting and thankfully, I managed to nip it in the bud.

I knew that if I wanted to really get ahead in my health and fitness, it was high time to set a meaningful goal that mattered - one that stirred a fire in my belly and inspire me to spring into action, no matter what the weather was like outside.

There have been a few things that I've long fantasised about, but have never had the courage to pursue them. I jumped onto Google to do a bit more research and learned that what I envisaged was in fact possible for me. I felt a thrill of excitement pulsate throughout my body.

With images of possibility playing in my mind, I put on my running shoes, grabbed a spray jacket and darted out the door. As I did the 'Cliff Young shuffle' for 55 minutes in the drizzling rain, I felt a sense of purpose. I wasn't returning a video nor was I going for a run. I was taking the first steps towards my new goal - the one that matters.

Now before you scream out wanting to know what that goal is, I have decided to keep tight lipped about it. I have a tendency to deflate my enthusiasm by being too verbose about certain things. So for the time being, it's just my big dream that I've shared with Patrick and have his full support.

I am now in the process of devising an action plan and will be seeking the advise of experts to help me achieve my goal, which is big. In fact, it's huge. I am so excited.

Until tomorrow, set the wheels in motion by aiming for something that matters to YOU!

The Blues Strike Back

Have you ever had an ailment or chronic condition that disappeared in response to medication or lifestyle modifications, yet you didn't realise how far you'd progressed until one day it all came back?

Well, that's what happened to me this week.

Since adopting a low GI (Glycemic Index) diet several months ago, my moods have stabilised and I have generally been feeling positive for days on end. I cannot remember a time when I felt content day after day, week after week, even month after month. A miracle really.

This ongoing cheer was particularly surprising when I returned from our European summer to a cold and drizzling Melbourne winter. I kept waiting for the bubble to burst and the blues to return, but I managed to keep it at bay. That is, until Sunday.

I woke up Sunday feeling flat and gave myself permission to rest after a succession of hectic weeks with trips to Adelaide, my brother's wedding, fairy parties and numerous dinner dates. I didn't feel much better yesterday and today I can say I honestly feel the blues. This is particularly perplexing since we depart for Bali on Thursday. Shouldn't I be full of rapture and delight?

Tomorrow I have an appointment with my healthcare practitioner who diagnosed me with high insulin levels earlier this year. I am interested to see if there is a biochemical explanation to my current blueish state... or perhaps it has something to do with the big four O coming up in three weeks time. Not that I'm upset about the number, but perhaps I thought my life would be different to what it is today. Who knows.

Until tomorrow, take time to acknowledge how far you've come in health matters and pray they do not return.
